olympus e510 or canon 400d? which is better and why? include details.?

Sunday Feb 28, 2010

Please, please choose the Canon 400d [xti]. The dust vibration sensor and large screen are 2 major benefits out of the Canon but also the Canon glass. More studio cameras around the world use Canon glass for their optics than from any other manufacturer. Now although the 18-55mm lens may not be ‘perfect’ it is still a very decent lens and I do believe that their are many more lenses to choose from down the Canon line than through olympus. But what I would suggest is going to see both cameras at a camera shop and see which you can operate easier and which OS you like more, which feels better in your hand, etc. As for the specific specs/details I believe you can compare the two cameras side by side on most major websites such as bestbuy.com, amazon.com, dpreview.com and most certainly through yahoo shopping and google. Hope this helps!

Olympus E420 settings?

Sunday Feb 28, 2010

Can someone explain to me the M/S/A/P dial settings?
What they do and how to use them.
Thanks (:
I would look in the manual, but it’s in french -.-

They are:

M — Manual, which means you set aperture and shutter speed

S — Shutter priority, which means you set the shutter speed and the camera sets the aperture

A — Aperture priority, which means you choose the aperture and the camera sets the shutter speed

P — Program, which means the camera handles both aperture and shutter

Your manual will have details. It’s the best place to learn the details of operating your camera.

Olympus e520 or Canon 1000d (xs)?

Sunday Feb 28, 2010

Which should I buy. The Olympus has better features for the money, built in image stabilization, and, from what I hear, a superior kit lens. But the Canon has more lenses that it is compatible with. What do you think? Also, has anyone tried the Olympus OM lenses on an Olympus DSLR (with an adapter of course)? Does it work well? Are the pictures sharp? (I already know that it would be manual only) Thanks
Does a smaller sensor make a difference at this level? Are there any specific advantages in the Canon crop sensor over the olympus 4/3 sensor?

I personnaly prefer Olympus. You get much more for less money, resulting in a better value overall. Olympus cameras like the E-520 (and E-510 which I own) allow users to select many different presets for scenes or to make manual control, including full manual. The Digital Zuicko lenses were designed form the ground up for digital photography. As such, they have been hailed by several as being superior lenses. Nikon and Canon use adapted film lenses which does allow for older lenses to be used. Yes, you can use an adapter for the OM lenses on the new cameras. They work fine, though I do find the quality of the new lenses to be better. All of my OM lenses were manual anyway, so that was a non-issue for me.

The reason Nikon and others use image stabilization in the lenses dates to their film lenses. Nikon and Canon had image stabilized lenses first for film cameras. As a result, they continue the trend. It also means they can charge significantly more for those lenses. Olympus and other companies put the IS in the camera, and it works with any lens, even lenses that require an adapter. You simply select the focal length and there you go. As for which is better, neither is. It has been shown by too many unbiased sources that both types of IS are too close to call a winner. Personally, I like it in the camera.

The sensor size issue is overdone, it does not make that much of a difference. The biggest down side of a smaller sensor is more noise at really high ISO. I am talking well above 1200. A benefit is that Olympus is the leader in noise reduction technology. Look at some comparisons at dpreview.com. I personally don’t have an image, including night shots and cave shots, that went over 800 ISO, so there is plenty of room to dial it up further. I know people with Nikons, Canons, and other brands. They are always impressed by the quality of my images. They, too, bought into the size difference. Once they say how the quality did not suffer, they were apologetic.

Olympus also makes some of the fastest writing cameras on the market, as well as the smallest and lightest. I was on a long tour and having a smaller, lighter camera was a definite advantage. Less fatigue, especially if use live view.

One advantage of the 2X crop factor in Olympus cameras is for wildlife photography. That’s a major reason Professional Photographer Mitsuaki Iwago, who has been on the cover of National Geographic, chose Olympus. It gets you closer to your subject. In wildlife photography, that’s a plus.

Pulitzer Prize winner Jay Dickman also chose Olympus. NASA also chose the Olympus E-1 for an official space mission. As you can see, professionals find the quality of Olympus perfectly fine for their careers.

Whats the skinny on the new Olympus E-Volt Digital SLR?

Sunday Feb 28, 2010

Anyone own it?
Pros?
Cons?

I haven’t tried it. I own an Evolt-500 and love it but I’m looking foward to the changes in the new line (better ISO, image stabilization).

Go to www.dpreview.com. They have a review on one of the new evolts but for a better idea of how they really work, click on the left hand side for forums and then click on Olympus DSLR talk and see what real owners are saying, also most alot of people post their pics on there as well.

I own an Olympus Evolt E-500. What is the difference between a telephoto conversion lens and a teleconverter?

Sunday Feb 28, 2010

A telephoto conversion lens seems to attach to the end of the lens, and the EC-14 1.4 teleconverter goes between the lens and the body. The EC-14 is substantially more expensive. Will I be happy with the converter lens (e.g., the Everfill conversion lens)?

Generally speaking, anything you attach to the end of the lens will not perform as well as a dedicated teleconverter that goes between the lens and the camera body.

While more expensive, the results are worth the investment.

Should I buy an Olympus Evolt e-450?

Sunday Feb 28, 2010

I have a budget of about 450, maybe extra with shipping/taxes, and I cannot figure out which camera to buy. I had found some good ones for cheap prices but they ended on Ebay before I finished saving all the money. I finally have all the money so I was going to get this Olympus because it’s a GREAT kit, but I’m reading reviews and I’m not sure if an Olympus is that great. I have just started doing photography, and have a few pin up studio photo shoots I will be doing VERY SOON, I get paid(not a lot, but enough) so I want to have the best for that price, is the Olympus the right choice? And it is not an option to save more money so please don’t suggest that, I know SLR cameras are expensive, so I am willing to buy used. I also found a canon rebel xsi for a good price…not sure on it thought because its less megapixels then the olympus

Olympus Film SLR cameras are some of the finest ever made.

Olympus dSLR cameras are not on my list because of the small sensor they have chosen to use in their cameras. They are only 18.00 x 13.50 mm…not that much bigger than 110 film.

Reading reviews and looking at native files it is apparent that Olympus dSLR cameras struggle with noise. Also the tiny, tiny optical viewfinders that Olympus dSLR cameras have are really annoying. In photography, real estate is everything. I would go with a bigger sensor.

Your wish as finally come true, an affordable digital camera

Wednesday Feb 24, 2010

Did you ever wish that you could have a camera to bring to the beach that took great pictures on land and in the water?  Well your wish has come true.  Olympus cameras have come up with a digital camera that takes great pictures on land and underwater.

The Olympus Stylus 850 has all those great features that you desire.  This camera is waterproof to 10 feet of water, takes great pictures and movies, comes in different colors, has a 5x digital zoom, rugged metal body and revolutionary shock-absorbing construction are designed to withstand a 5′ drop.

The things that I like about the Olympus Stylus 850 digital camera is that it has Face Detection that tracks your subjects’ faces within the frame and automatically focuses and optimizes exposure for sharp, brilliant pictures. Plus, the camera panorama mode captures 3 images and stitches them together to create one amazing panoramic picture.

But you may ask “why Olympus digital cameras?”  Well the answer is “Olympus digital cameras is well known for producing high quality cameras way before digital cameras became popular and well known.”  Olympus has their own line of digital cameras to choose from, including the SLR cameras,  they are unique and are highly recommended by professional photographers, and amateur photographers as well.  They are easy to operate and make photography fun!

The Olympus Stylus 850 digital camera is affordable, priced under $300.  There are other Olympus models to choose from but if you want a fun camera that’s easy to operate than the Olympus Stylus 850 is for you.
