I have one of these cameras and I don’t really understand the manual. I like things to be shown and described more. Are there any sites that give directions and training on what settings to put the camera on for certain pics and stuff. I came across some sites that did but it was for the E 410 not 510. I’m in the yahoogroups for the olympus but I want a website that tells me all I want in one site. Any help plz!! thanks
thanks everyone so far. And yes I do want to take a class. Unfortunately they don’t have one at the local community college. They do at the other one in town but it’s way to far of a drive. I have worked at sears for a long time so I know alot about photography as in lighting and posing and stuff but the camera was set to the right settings and I never had to mess with it so that’s where I need training. I work at a photolab in walgreens now so I don’t work with cameras that much, I just develop film. I bought the same camera we use at the sears studio b/c I figured I would be familiar with it but I thought wrong. My pictures never turn out as good as I want them too. I want to learn morea bout the camera and it’s settings.
Olympus Digital School is a great learning site for the E510

Please, please choose the Canon 400d [xti]. The dust vibration sensor and large screen are 2 major benefits out of the Canon but also the Canon glass. More studio cameras around the world use Canon glass for their optics than from any other manufacturer. Now although the 18-55mm lens may not be ‘perfect’ it is still a very decent lens and I do believe that their are many more lenses to choose from down the Canon line than through olympus. But what I would suggest is going to see both cameras at a camera shop and see which you can operate easier and which OS you like more, which feels better in your hand, etc. As for the specific specs/details I believe you can compare the two cameras side by side on most major websites such as bestbuy.com, amazon.com, dpreview.com and most certainly through yahoo shopping and google. Hope this helps!

I have been doing photography for 8 years now, albeit in a sporadic way. I am considered to have promise and be a good photographer by those who have seen my work. I would like, in time, to make money from this.
I had a Nikon D200 before, but sold it off with the lenses, as it was too heavy for me to carry around daily.
I like the Olympus, but have heard it has an inferior chip, plus it is an entry level dslr which kind of puts me off.
I love Nikon’s build quality, but the D80 is still a fairly heavy camera.
The Canon felt good in my hands, the same as the Olympus, but I hate the plasticky feel of it.
Any recommendations?
I do a lot of portrait and nature photography.
The problem with the Olympus is that they use the 4:3 system which no one else uses but the failing Leica digital systems. The drawback to the 4:3 system is that it makes a perfect 4"X3" print format which hardly any lab is set up to do. Canon & Nikon uses the system that creates images in the 4X6 format which is the industry standard and has been ever since 35mm came along. using the 4:3 system means that when you get your proofs printed at a lab, they will have to crop your image to make it fit the 4×6 standard print and trust me they will crop it they way they want it which is not necessarily the way you want it. The Rebel XSi may have the plasticky feel but that plastic is made of a polycarbonated plastic, that is as tough as steel. The heavier feel Nikon would prolly crack faster than an XSi dropped from about 4 ft. Finally Canon proved a long time ago that the CMOS chip is superior to te CCD chip. Nikon has folowed suit with the CMOS chip but only uses it in the D300 and the D3. Canon has had the CMOS chip in every DSLR that they have ever made. It’s your call.
